I have already been very active on this issue and one project Im proud of is the FEMA funds of $1.35 million for Cove that is earmarked as approved. This project will help future drainage in the City of Cove and the Plantation subdivision area by taking water away from Cotton Bayou and diverting it straight to Cotton Lake. The City of Mont Belvieus FEMA funds request was initially denied, but the State of Texas has asked FEMA again on our behalf to fund this project and the outlook is now hopeful. This drainage channel will run from Cotton Bayou north of I-10 to Old River north of I-10 at a cost of $4.5 million. Any federal money we get for these projects keeps local taxes down. This channel will also save Mont Belvieu residents $1 to $2 million in future costs associated with state mandates on our sewer system.

Brooke Corp. said its finance arm, Brooke Credit Corp., has secured an $80 million revolving warehouse line of credit from Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati.
The Overland Park insurance franchiser said borrowings from the credit line would be used to temporarily fund loans made to insurance agencies and related businesses until those loans were securitized.
Previously, Brooke also announced it sold 20,000 shares of convertible preferred stock, with a stated value of $20 million to an institutional investor at a discount price of $14.6 million.
The preferred shares are convertible to Brooke common stock at a fixed price of $17 a share and would equal about 1.2 million shares of all the stock were converted. The company said it also issued warrants to purchase about 235,000 shares of its common stock for about $24 a share.

Most carriers fail to consistently compensate bumped passengers or let frequent fliers know their true chances of landing award seats, and more than 40 percent of the time their gate agents don't offer adequate updates on flight delays, according to the office of the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Growth in low-cost carriers such as Southwest and JetBlue, which generate fewer complaints than the industry average, and more self-service technology may be bigger factors in the decrease.
But in July, Access America, based in Richmond, Va., began offering BizPack, an optional add-on to its comprehensive plan that costs $19 extra per adult. It pays if you cancel or interrupt your trip because you're required to work, your company is undergoing a merger or in case a serious event such as a fire or natural disaster hits your workplace.

California earthquake victims were routinely defrauded by State Farm, and State Farm officials lied in court about it. Prudential agreed to pay a $35 million fine and set aside money to settle policyholder suits after an investigation found the company had defrauded more than 10 million life insurance customers.

Bank of America branch robbe d Shawn Porter, 31, of Palm Harbor was acquitted of insurance fraud Friday. Porter had faced a felony fraud charge related to a fire that destroyed his waterfront home in Crystal Beach in 2001.

Gerard Reichert has been named corporate director of environmental services by Sterling Glen Senior Living, the owner and operator of 11 senior living residences in the metropolitan area, Connecticut and Philadelphia. The Hewlett resident will oversee all building maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical systems at the properties. He most recently was an area director with Temco Service Industries Inc. of Manhattan, where he was responsible for directing, administering, operating and evaluating building service and plant management programs for 15 New York City public school buildings. Before that, he was assistant vice president of facilities at the Long Island Savings Bank in Melville where he oversaw the general maintenance of 52 bank branches throughout Long Island.

Wilmington Trust continues to hold the top market position for Delaware's retail banking market, according to newly available federal deposit data. Wilmington Trust holds $7.6 billion in Delaware deposits, up 9 percent from 2005, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data, which reflects deposits as of June 30. The state's No. 2 retail bank, PNC Bank Delaware, has $2.4 billion, up 4 percent from 2005. Among the five largest retail banks, WSFS saw its deposits grow fastest, rising 23 percent to $1.6 billion. Wilmington-based WSFS, the oldest bank in Delaware, remains No. 4 by deposits in the state. No. 3 Wachovia saw its deposits rise by 13 percent to $1.8 billion, while No. 5 Citizens gained 8 percent to $1.3 billion.
